1,441 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: From the Inside
Location: Briefing Room, Deck 1
Timeline: After 'A New Lead (Part 1)'

Previously, on Star Trek: Missouri:

Patricia turned to Akira and Achilles.

"Security, Marines, we'll be beaming into a hostile situation. I want you to make sure everyone you pick for away teams are competent with a phaser." She said. "It's likely Klawe won't be keen on talking."

And now, the continuation:

Major Aurelius cast a determined gaze at his captain, his voice unwavering. "Aye, Captain. I've assembled a squad comprised exclusively of MARSOC operators. We'll dedicate ourselves to rigorous rehearsals in preparation for the mission's execution."

"If it's alright with you, Major, I was wondering if we could run over a few different scenarios with our respective teams," Akira requested. "I reckon a joint exercise ought to help us in working out any flaws with our strategy."

"Intelligence; I want you to gather as much information on Klawe and his operation as you can." Patricia said to Danielle. "This will include beaming down with our away teams to obtain facility schematics and help guide your comrades around if they get disoriented."

"Understood Captain. " Danielle replied.

"Does anybody have any other questions about our assignment?" Patricia asked.

When her question was met with no reply, Patricia sighed.

"Alright; you all have your orders:" She said. "But... Before I adjourn this meeting, I understand that due to the current situation, we've not really had anything in the way of a meet and greet, and as such, it's felt like we barely know each other. Well, I hope to change that, and so, before this meeting is officially adjourned, I would like to go around the table and have everyone introduce themselves."

Patricia rose from her chair.

"I'll go ahead and lead things off:" She declared. "My name is Patricia Cooke. I was raised in Chicagoland, but I was born on Mars. My promotion to Commander might be fresh, but I do have command experience, having served as first officer of the USS Sandusky for two years, and then dipping my toe in as second officer and chief of security on the same ship for about a year before that. I turn 30 this April, and I have a younger sister that I'm very proud of. As for a little bit on who I am; I am a huge anime nut: If you come by my quarters or my ready room, you'll very likely spot anime figures on display alongside volumes of some of my favorite manga series, and I think I even have a couple ancient DVDs on some of the series' anime adaptations."

Patricia looked down at the table, running a single finger over the tables smooth surface as she noticed the Missouri lineage was subtly engraved into the tabletop.

"Oh, and one more thing; you won't find a name more closely tied to the Missouri lineage than Cooke: My grandmother was Major Francine Cooke. She served aboard the Excelsior class Missouri during its Dominion War service, and many generations earlier, my distant ancestor served aboard the very battleship that made the name famous. Safe to say, I'm third in my family to serve aboard a Missouri, and being the first one to call the USS Missouri their command, it is an honor and a privilege to be able to do so."

Patricia contemplated adding the threat of a long and lonely spacewalk to whoever insulted the Missouri, but decided better of it and sat back down.

"That is all: I yield the floor to whoever wants to go next." She said.

Lahki decided to go next. She might as well-get it over with. She smiled, but spoked up louder. "I am Dr. Lahki Bakshi-Williams. I recently decided to drop the Williams professionally, though-my husband has been gone long enough. Both of our children are also in the Fleet-Junior is an Engineer on the USS Mendocino, and Aimee is a doctor on the USS Columbia. I have a granddaughter, Nassar. She's my world. At the end of this tour, I plan to retire back to Betazed, or maybe Risa, and do Grandma things. My hobbies include reading stories to Nassar, and also finalizing my research on the applications of Plutonium based medications on non-Humanoid races for maximum healing," she said. "Feel free to come by my office just to chat. I love meeting and entertaining people, even if you don't want or need a check up." At that, she settled back.

"Well, I suppose if we're doing introductions and all that," Akira began. "Name's Akira Kogami- yes, the Akira Kogami from Eternal Smile Productions, I know you can hardly suspend your disbelief- and for the past... fourteen-fifteen or so years? Anywho- I've been something of an on-off acquaintance of Patty's; we were in the Security tract together, we played R&B gigs in our down time, we participated in cultural exchange programs- if it weren't for the fact we're often assigned to opposite ends of the galaxy, we'd be welded at the hip. Oh, and yes, Patty is as much of an anime nut as she says she is; when she ran out of room to store her manga collection on her side of the dorm, she started stashing them under my bed!"

"Hey, you said I could put them there... For about the first 5 or so volumes I bought." Patricia defended.

"She bought a lot more than five volumes," Akira smirked.

"My name is Danielle Sidney, though most of you may have heard of me from before. I used to be a world renowned pop star but left it behind to join Starfleet. To be honest it was originally a Publicity stunt but I quickly realized that Starfleet provided me with something I didn't know was missing. A proper family" she explained. "Regardless despite serving on other ships this one seems the most promising and I'm happy to be here." She ended as she sat back down.

"Howdy, my name's Charlotte Yeager, but you can call me Charlie- my friends do." Charlie said. "Formally, my job title is Assistant Chief Flight Control Officer. However, due to the current lack of a Chief Flight Control Officer, I am currently filling that duty. Like Commander Cooke here, I am also from America- West Virginia, to be specific. I've been married for... Gee, almost 15 years now, and I have four beautiful children. My oldest is just hitting puberty while my youngest is still in diapers. Though, she's making great progress in her potty training. You'll definitely see them running around the corridors on this ship. Anyhow, I'm happy to be here; looking forward to pushing this ship to its limits. I've heard it can give an Armitage class a run for its money."

Achilles sat a little more formally before speaking. "Major Achilles Aurelius. I was born, if you could call it that, on Trialas IV, on August 14th, a very long time ago by human standards. I have lived among a few alien cultures, and was assimilated by the Borg Collective for a large portion of my adult life. Due to the timing and how genetics work, I probably have hundreds of relatives that are descended from my biological parents and/or their other children, but I have never met any of them. I am a marine through and through, and the vast majority of activities that I enjoy have to do with improving my capabilities as a marine; the only stand out hobby being singing. My current assignment is commanding officer, marine detachment, USS Missouri."

Achilles then sat back into a more comfortable position.

The turn passed to the purple haired Commander now. "Lieutenant Commander Tsukasa Izumi," she started. "Technically I'm from Vega Colony, but raised in Japan on Earth. So that's home. Let's see... I've been on the Missouri before this one when my older twin sister commanded her. I'm an engineer before command and I have my son Shouta aboard with me. Being a single mom is hard, but I'm doing OK at it..." she paused. "It's nice to meet you all!" She added with a bow of her head.

"Alright:" Patricia said. "You all have your orders: Let's nip I-400 in the bud before she gets her hand on Klawe's dilithium. Dismissed."
