1,033 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: I-402
Location: Starbase 72, Janus VI System
Timeline: After Part 1

Previously, on Star Trek: Missouri:

"So, that's it?" Oko asked. "You're just going to let them take it?"

"You two have any better ideas?" Patricia responded.

"You imbeciles!" Boso exclaimed. "Banner has deceived you; this won't fix a damn thing!"

"What did I tell you, Patty?" Akira grumbled as she primed her phaser rifle. "It seems we couldn't trust that dipshit Banner after all..."

"Now, now, let's settle down for a second..." Patricia said, looking off down the corridor where the others had disappeared to. Now, the doubt was beginning to set into her mind:

And now, the continuation:

[A few minutes later...]

Once the Cradle had been collected from the Missouri, Banner, Luhk, and the others had brought the experimental biobed back to the science lab on the starbase, and after reintroducing everyone to Iona to prove that Banner meant what he was saying earlier, the Daystrom scientists had gotten to work uploading Iona into the being within the Cradle with everyone watching:

"This framework is not at all compatible." Banner lamented.

"The genetic coding tower is at 97%." Luhk responded. "You have precisely three minutes to upload that schematic."

The words had hardly left the Vulcan's mouth when Patricia unexpected barged in with Akira and the Gane twins in tow.

"I'm only going to say this once:" Patricia declared.

"How about nonce, Starfleet?" Banner shot back.

"Shut it down, Banner!" Patricia ordered.

"Over my dead body, Starfleet." Banner said.

"You don't know what you're doing!" Patricia responded.

"And you do?" Luhk asked before the Vulcan noticed the presence of the twins. "Commander, can you confirm that you are not under any sort of mind control?"

"I know you Daystrom dipshits are angry:" Boso said, stepping forward.

"I am a Vulcan. Anger is not in my nature." Luhk said. "That being said, I could dispense with that multi-legged insect on your shoulder, and you would miss the whole thing."

"Doctors, after everything Starfleet has put on the line for you..." Patricia began.

"That's nothing compared to what's coming!" Banner cut her off.

"You don't know what's in there!" Boso interjected.

Suddenly, there was a whirlwind as Oko quickly disconnected every plug leading from the Cradle. When the wind stopped, Oko was holding the final plug, which she let drop to the floor with a thunk.

"Go on," She said. "You were saying?"

"Right, then," Akira began as she moved to restrain Doctor Banner. "Now that we've got all that sorted, you and your crony have the right to remain silent; anything you say can- and very likely will- be held against you in a Starfleet Judge Advocate General Court of-!"

Suddenly, Luhk proceeded to perform a Vulcan nerve pinch, incapacitating Akira. The Vulcan then caught and thrusted the Lieutenant across the room, striking the bulkhead.

No sooner had he done so, however that the Missouri's Security team quickly moved to Akira's defense.

"GET ON THE GROUND!" The green-haired Lieutenant shouted as Luhk was practically piled on by the Security team and tackled to the floor.

At this moment, alarms began to blare as the Cradle's systems began to shut down.

"I'm rerouting the upload!" Banner declared.

At this moment, Patricia pulled her phaser and shot at the console Banner was now facing, showering Banner in sparks as the console exploded from the blast.

Tsukasa who had been in the next room rushed in. "What's going on?!" She exclaimed. She had been analysing data in the adjacent room and seems to have missed all the fun.

At this point, Banner recovered from being showered with sparks, and pulled his own phaser, taking aim at Tsukasa, the easiest target currently standing exposed out in the open.

"Get down, Commander!" Patricia yelled, grabbing Tsukasa and pulling her into cover just as a blast from Banner's phaser passed through the spot where Tsukasa had just been standing.

"What the hell?!" Tsukasa said turning to Patricia. "Who gave him a phaser?!"

"God damn Daystrom scientists always hiding something up their sleeve:" Patricia grumbled. "We need to get the Cradle out of the line of fire! If that thing has Dilithium in it like our accomplices claim, one wrong shot could blow us all sky high!"

Lissa had been forgotten about in the commotion. She'd quickly gotten out of her security team's way when they had stormed in, and being that she was currently unarmed she'd stayed off to the side trying to not draw attention to herself while she scanned the room for anything she could use to help out. The Captain mentioned getting the cradle out of the line of fire, but if she made a move for it she was certain that would just draw everyone's attention there.

They were in a lab. There were containment fields she could deploy, but one wrong move and Banner was running off, and her team was cut off from chasing him. Then she saw it. He was standing near an output for a flame retardant release. If she could set it off, foam would start to release on his side of the room. She knew her team would be quick to react, she just hoped it would be enough of a distraction to throw him off for long enough for them to do something.

She reached her right hand over to the nearest computer terminal, and did her best to not move her head as she typed - reading the controls through her peripheral vision as she tried to remain a nonchalant. It would just take a few seconds to get to the emergency command.

However, it was a few seconds that Lissa didn't have, for just as she was about to enter the emergency command, someone hit a control panel on the Cradle. Under normal circumstances, this would mean that the Cradle would have bricked itself and become useless to all parties. However, since Iona was presently hooked up to the Cradle, the AI must have attempted to power the biobed by itself, for the Cradle began to go haywire and surge.

"What the fuck?" Patricia exclaimed.

To be continued...
