| Personal History | Roy Erbun was born in the capital of Angosia III in 2340. At birth, he was removed from his mother, a poor woman who history forgot. Roy was raised by the state with hundreds of other young people who were educated in military tactics and combat from a young age. Despite not being as strong or capable as his 'genetically superior' peers, he was still placed in a military indoctrination centre as a young teen and given a martial education. With the Tarsian War being a costly conflict desperate for meat for the grinder, he was put in a uniform, subjected to chemical therapy to augment what genetic alteration could not, and was given a support role. For his entire career, he served as a guard and later a transportation specialist at the Sarpaul Transport Complex. At the end of the war, Angosia disbanded most of its military forces. Roy was given a job as a train driver, though he regularly found himself in violent confrontations with his colleagues and passengers. Within weeks, he was imprisoned and was amongst a quarter of veterans imprisoned within a year of the Tarsian Armistice being signed. Roy lived in an Angosian prison until 2366 when an uprising of veteran soldiers occurred following a visit from the Federation. After the rebellion, significant social change meant that Roy was given deconditioning therapy to reverse his military indoctrination. This treatment was augmented by support from the Federation who engaged in a medical support program on Angosia. During his treatment, Erbun began a romantic relationship with a Starfleet nurse, Melody O'Neal. After his treatment, feeling he owed nothing to his world and it owed him nothing either, he was permitted to leave Angosia and soon married Melody. In 2370, the couple settled on Andoria, a military hub of the Federation. There Melody worked at a Starfleet Medical facility and Roy joined the Starfleet Marines, despite some misgivings about his past. In 2371, Roy completed basic training and entered the infantry just in time to join the conflict against the Klingons. Roy participated in a number of battles, including the battle of Ajilon Prime. Having seen war up close, he found that fighting the Klingons made Erbun wish he was still militarily conditioned and chemically augmented. After the Klingon War, Roy spent several years tied up in the Dominion War. He was deployed many times throughout those years to fight the Jam'Hadar, moving from ship-to-ship and engagement to engagement as part of the 156th Marine Battalion. After the war, Roy took a leave of absence, during which time his son Roga, named for the Angosian soldier, revolutionary and peacemaker, was born. Roy was keen to shield his son from conflict and a turbulent upbringing and helped to raise Roga until he was school aged. A little listless, Roy returned to service. Fatigued and disillusioned by years of conflict, Roy moved into logistics and later served as an instructor at the Starfleet Marine Academy on Andoria. When his son grew up, he joined Starfleet as an officer, which Roy disagreed with for many reasons, causing the two to become estranged. In 2393, he returned to infantry service. He couldn't stand sending young Marines out to fight without being part of the action. Throughout the mid-2390s, he served many infantry roles before becoming the training officer of the 199th Platoon, a mobile Marine infantry unit, eventually rising to become its most senior Sergeant and becoming the First Sergeant of the group. The platoon has moved between installations and starships over many years. It is now assigned to the USS Missouri. |
