Personal History | Karen was born Karen Kekoa in Honolulu, Hawaii. The only child of Jerry and Lilo Kekoa. Her father was a Starfleet Warrant Officer who worked at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickham, a historic military base that had become an important Starfleet installation, while her mother owned and operated a Honolulu area food truck. Karen had a rather unique upbringing: While her elementary school years were considered fairly normal, save for frequent visits to the Pearl Harbor historic sites, including the Battleship Missouri Memorial, by the time Karen entered junior high school, she began helping out with her mother's food truck. As the truck was chartered by various events, Karen got quite the exposure to various functions and events, even if she spent it all inside the truck either taking orders or, once she was old enough, cooking the food her mother sold. However, as Karen became of high school age, she began seriously considering Starfleet as a career path. |
